Let me walk you through how to make the most of a couple of days in this gorgeous riverside town.

Friday

Option 1 

Fruit loop

Take a leisurely 35-mile scenic drive through the countryside surrounding Hood River.

Along the way, stop to visit local orchards, wineries, flower farms, and other attractions.

The drive is a great way to experience the beauty – and flavor – of the area.

Don’t forget to get a map of the ‘Fruit Loop’ sites to plan your stops.

Option 2 

Shopping in downtown Hood River

Downtown Hood River is full of quirky shops and boutiques.

For those who enjoy a casual stroll downtown through the local businesses, this is a great place to enjoy a coffee and shop.

Option 3

Art and culture

If you’re in the mood for arts and culture see a theatre production at the Columbia Center for the Arts.

Dinner

Option 1 – Full Sail Brewing

Taste the local flavor by visiting Full Sail Brewing a small craft brewery of Hood River.

Enjoy a pint of one of their brews and a delicious meal while catching a glimpse of the Columbia River from their patio or indoor seating.

Option 2 – pFriem Family Brewers

Another craft brewer in Hood River, pFriem Family Brewers, offers their list of beers and a small selection of meal items.

The mussels & frites, mac & cheese, and fish & chips are family favorites.

The tasting room is on the waterfront in a beautiful, airy space. You can sit right next to the brewing tanks, or out on the patio and enjoy the view.

Option 3 – Solstice Wood Fired Pizza

For a tasty wood-fired pizza, visit Solstice. Deliciously baked pizza straight from the oven.

Also, on the waterfront, you will have a beautiful view. On warm days, the garage doors come up. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Saturday

Breakfast

Option 1 – Dog River Coffee

If your morning routine includes a good cup of coffee, a muffin, pastry or cookie visit Dog River Coffee.

This cozy shop has a welcoming vibe and serves delicious coffee and small bites.

Option 2 – Pine Street Bakery

A bakery serving breakfast items, coffee, and, of course, fresh bread. Step into the homey smells of baking bread and tasty treats.

Pine Street is a favorite stop for breakfast and baked goods. I dare you to leave without buying something – although they don’t charge for smells!

Option 3 – KickStand Coffee and Kitchen

Coffee and a meal.

For those that want a substantial breakfast, KickStand Coffee and Kitchen serves coffee drinks as well as a rotating list of beers and food items.

OK, maybe skip the beer…

It’s a good spot to fuel up for the adventure you have ahead.

Saturday morning activities

Option 1

Outdoors – Visit Mt. Hood

Mt. Hood is about an hour away from Hood River. During the winter months, this is a great place to visit for winter sports. Try skiing, snowboarding, or snowshoeing.

Option 2

Outdoors – Try a water sport

Looking for adventure? The water is why many people come to Hood River.

Windsurfing

Windsurfing combines the excitement of surfing with the skill of sailing, making it one of the most popular activities in Hood River.

Beginners and pros alike can enjoy the challenge and freedom this sport offers. Lessons abound along the waterfront.

Sailing

On a sunny day, sailboats dot the Columbia River, creating a serene and picturesque scene. Join in the fun by taking to the water on your own sailboat or booking a guided experience.

Nothing quite like the gentle rhythm of the wind and waves to make you feel alive.

White water rafting

Want a real adrenaline rush?

Seek out a river rafting guide.

We’ve had several great experiences with River Drifters and Wet Planet.

Pro tip: Be prepared to get wet.

Kayaking

Explore the beauty of the Columbia River and its tributaries up close with a kayaking adventure.

Whether you’re paddling through calm waters or taking on a light current, kayaking offers a peaceful way to enjoy the area’s natural beauty.

Stand-up paddleboarding

For a fun challenge, try stand-up paddleboarding.

Balance on a large surfboard-like board and use a paddle to glide through the water.

It’s a great way to work on your core strength while soaking up the stunning scenery around you.

Rentals and instruction are plentiful along the waterfront.

Fishing

Choose a local fishing spot and take your tackle box out for some exercise in patience.

During fishing season boats fill the river.

There are also many opportunities to fish along the shore on the Oregon or Washington side. Be sure to have the appropriate license.

Lunch

Option 1 – River Daze Café

For a lunch that’s fresh, wholesome, and downright delicious, head to River Daze Café.

They pride themselves on using local, organic ingredients to create meals made from scratch.

If you’re craving a hearty sandwich, a vibrant salad, or something off their breakfast menu, you’ll leave feeling satisfied and nourished.

The cozy atmosphere and focus on farm-to-table dining make this café a must-visit spot in Hood River.

Option 2 – Ferment Brewing Company

One of our favorite places to eat on the waterfront, Ferment has a full selection of local brews using the Farmhouse technique and delicious pub food.

The outdoor 2nd story courtyard overlooks the river and has a huge stone fireplace. Adirondack chairs and seating surround the fireplace.

You can also opt to eat inside the restaurant or get carry-out.

Option 3 – Boda’s Kitchen 

For a relaxed lunch or a meal on the go, Boda’s Kitchen is an excellent choice.

This gourmet deli offers a wide range of delicious, freshly prepared dishes, from hearty sandwiches to flavorful salads and soups.

Saturday afternoon activities

Option 1

Indoors – Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum

This museum is the largest collection of antique airplanes and automobiles that still function, in the USA.

Wander through the exhibits of restored aircraft, classic cars, motorcycles, and military vehicles.

If you happen to be there on the 2nd Saturday of the month, you may see them take one of the aircraft for a flight, or pull out one of the vehicles for a spin.

Open 9-5 pm daily.

Option 2 

Outdoors – Hike in the Gorge

Search the Hiking Project for a trail near Hood River that suits you. There are lots of waterfall hikes to choose from.

There are so many perfect hikes in Hood River you could spend years and not run out.

Dinner

Option 1 – Double Mountain Brewery

For a casual, laid-back dinner with plenty of flavor, head to Double Mountain Brewery.

Known for their excellent craft beer and cider, this spot is a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

The menu goes beyond your typical brewery fare, offering a variety of wood-fired pizzas, hearty sandwiches, and creative dishes that pair perfectly with their house brews.

Option 2 – Pho River

Craving something warm and comforting?

Pho River is the place to go.

This Vietnamese restaurant serves up steaming bowls of pho, flavorful curries, noodle dishes, and soups that will satisfy any appetite.

If you’re in the mood for a light and fragrant meal or something hearty and spicy, their menu offers plenty of options to suit your taste.

Option 3 – Celilo

If you’re looking to treat yourself to an elegant dining experience, Celilo Restaurant and Bar is the perfect choice.

Known for their generous portions and classic comfort food, you’ll find everything from bacon, eggs, and hash browns to fluffy omelets and perfectly golden French toast.

The friendly atmosphere makes this a great choice for a relaxed Sunday morning.

Option 3 – Broder Øst

For something a little different, head to Broder Øst, where they specialize in traditional Swedish dishes for breakfast and lunch.

From savory Smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches) to their iconic aebleskivers (Scandinavian pancake balls), you’ll enjoy a unique and flavorful start to your day.

Coffee houses

Option 1 – 10 Speed Coffee Co.

A go-to spot for coffee enthusiasts, 10 Speed Coffee Co. serves up high-quality coffee with a focus on craftsmanship.

Pair your drink with one of their small bites for a quick and satisfying stop before heading out for your Sunday activities.

Option 2 – Doppio Coffee

For those who love a vibrant, modern, and welcoming coffee shop vibe, Doppio Coffee is an excellent choice.

Known for its great coffee and delicious snacks, this is a lovely spot to sit back and savor your morning brew while soaking up the Hood River atmosphere.

You can sit right in the window and look out on the water.

Sunday activities

Option 1

Indoor – Wine tasting at Hood Crest Winery

Hood Crest Winery is on the outskirts of Hood River with a beautiful lodge restaurant, tasting room, and views of Mt. Hood and the surrounding hills.

Option 2

Outdoor – Mountain biking

Mountain biking is a great activity for the adrenal junky. Rent a bike at a local shop and hit the trail for a day of riding.

If you aren’t hardcore but are interested in renting a bike to ride around town there are also rental options for this. Or bring your own if you are able.
