Manito Park is a family favorite. There’s something for everyone.
History of Manito Park
Manito Park was established as a public park in 1904.
Over the decades, the park has evolved, with significant contributions from renowned landscape architects and horticulturists.
Today, it’s a jewel in Spokane, drawing locals and tourists to its picturesque grounds.
Main attractions
Manito Park is home to several distinct gardens and attractions, each offering its own unique charm and beauty.
Duncan Garden
Duncan Garden is a formal European-style garden featuring symmetrical flower beds, manicured lawns, and a central fountain.
Designed in the early 20th century, this garden is particularly stunning during the summer months when the flower beds are in full bloom with a riot of colors.
The geometric layout and meticulously maintained flower beds make it a popular spot for photography and strolls.
I enjoy visiting in the winter and enjoying the quiet. You can appreciate the structure of this garden when the flowers are dormant. But of course, it’s stunning in full bloom.
Japanese Garden
The Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Japanese Garden, named after Spokane’s sister city in Japan, is a serene oasis within Manito Park.
This garden showcases traditional Japanese landscaping elements such as a koi pond, waterfall, and meticulously pruned trees and shrubs.
Rose Hill
Rose Hill is a must-see for rose enthusiasts.
This garden boasts over 1,500 rose bushes representing various species and hybrids.
Blooming from late spring through fall, Rose Hill smells as good as it looks.
The garden also serves as a testing ground for new rose varieties, making it an ever-evolving attraction.
All the roses are labeled, making this a great place to make a wish list.
Just behind the pergola in the photo below, you’ll find a picnic table with a gorgeous view. It’s five-star dining at a fraction of the price😉.
Lilac Garden
Spokane is known as the “Lilac City,” and the Lilac Garden at Manito Park celebrates this designation.
Featuring many lilac varieties, the garden bursts into bloom in late spring, filling the air with sweet fragrance.
The Lilac Garden is a favorite for both locals and visitors, especially during the Spokane Lilac Festival.
Ferris Perennial Garden
The Ferris Perennial Garden offers a beautiful array of perennial flowers and plants that bloom throughout the growing season.
This garden is designed to showcase the diversity and beauty of perennial plants, inspiring gardeners and providing a four-season experience for visitors.
The garden aims to have something in bloom every day of the year.
We love to visit the perennial garden several times a year. There’s always something to discover.

The Conservatory is packed with delicate, heat-loving plants. The display changes seasonally.
Usually open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Closed Wednesdays.
