North Parade
Discovering North Parade Avenue
North Parade, formally known as North Parade Avenue, is a short shopping street in north Oxford.
It’s the only shopping area between the city center to the south and Summertown to the north, making it a popular spot for locals.
A variety of independent shops and eateries
This picturesque street is lined with independent shops, pubs, and houses.

Delicious food and yummy drinks. We stopped there twice during the trip because the food was so good. - Gardener’s Arms:

Drinking chocolate—that is all I will say. Just kidding. It is a chain, but it was worth the experience. You can also order it online in whatever cocoa percentage you want.
A lively atmosphere day and night
Broad St. was a fun place to go because there are a lot of seating areas outside in the courtyard.
A few game stores, bookstores, a thrift store, lots of restaurants, and souvenirs shops line the street.
Walking tours of Oxford start here. Our tour got cancelled – the tour guide had a family emergency. The tour office was closed on the days we were there. I would book ahead because the tours fill up fast.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t go inside any buildings, but we did walk around the amazing Oxford University campus.

Oxford’s Covered Market, dating back to the 18th century, is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the city’s rich history and vibrant shopping scene.
This iconic market houses an array of stalls and shops, offering everything from fresh produce and artisanal goods to clothing and souvenirs.
There are tons of places to eat in the covered market. There was a lovely chocolate shop I stopped in. We picked up sandwiches to go so we could get to our train early.
Ben’s Cookies
No visit to the Covered Market is complete without a stop at Ben’s Cookies, a local institution. Loyal customers have been coming here for freshly baked treats since 1983. Indulge in their mouthwatering cookies, made with high-quality ingredients and baked to perfection.
The Wool Hound
A cute wool shop. I stopped here for Brittany (my sister) to pick up English wool. The owner was super nice. She has an Instagram called The Wool Hound Oxford. If you love to knit or crochet, definitely stop in and get some wool.
Port Meadow

There are a ton of things for kids of all ages.
And, they have a cafe for a coffee break.

It houses over 5,000 plant species across 1.8 hectares, including representatives from 90% of higher plant families.
The garden features a historic Walled Garden, glasshouses recreating diverse climates, and ornamental sections like the Lower Garden.
As the UK’s oldest botanic garden, it serves as a hub for research, education, and conservation, sharing the importance of plants with the world.
This was such a cool and relaxing place to find. We were tired and wanted something easy to do, and walking around a perfectly manicured garden with fun greenhouses was the perfect thing.
